New Interest Discovery Tool from NextLesson Brings the Real World into the Classroom -- InterestID Recommends Relevant Lessons Based on Student Interests.

NextLesson, a K-12 developer of personally relevant curriculum, today announced the launch of InterestID, a student interest and lesson discovery tool, at EdmodoCon 2015. InterestID enables teachers to discover their students' interests and easily find standards-aligned lessons on topics students love.

With a fun, engaging interface, InterestID allows students to voice their favorite interests within categories such as sports, books, movies, food, music and gadgets. Students can filter by specific categories, rate whether they like or dislike individual items, and add new interests to guide future lesson development. They can also view a summary of their most liked categories and interests.

Teachers are able to view the interests of their students in a summary that displays the top categories, most popular interests within those categories, and recommended lessons from NextLesson based on those interests. Teachers can view summaries for individual students or classes as a whole, and track changes in their students' interests over time.

"We want to help teachers make learning relevant by connecting lessons to things students already know and like," says Dion Lim, Founder and CEO of NextLesson. "By having students voice their interests through InterestID, teachers can meet students where they are by discovering lessons that their students will find interesting and engaging."

Teacher Feedback

"Love the individual interest survey. This will be GREAT at the beginning of the school year or when a student is new to school to see what their interests are."

"The best part of the tool is being able to see the interests my students have and to see possible activities that I could use. My students really enjoyed looking at all of the choices, especially in the food category."

"I will ABSOLUTELY use this tool! I just got back from a Kindergarten technology conference and am so excited to use tech like this in my classroom."

"Give me this tool yesterday! I don't know how many index cards I've used up gathering students' interests."

"These are the types of lessons we, as teachers, would love to have time to make, but, of course, we don't! They're authentic, engaging, and make the students think."

InterestID is a free tool available on nextlesson.org and in the Edmodo Store. Watch our InterestID Overview video to learn more.
