SMI Completes OEM Eye Tracking Platform to Cover All Consumer Displays -- SIGGRAPH 2015: SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) completes mass market eye tracking platform with reference designs for desktop, mobile and wearable AR/VR computing and display formats ready for consumer and industrial OEMs

SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI), a world leader in Eye Tracking Technology for more than two decades, has announced the completion of its OEM Eye Tracking Platform for integration into all consumer display formats. The SMI OEM Eye Tracking Platform contains reference designs for seamless integration of eye tracking into consumer tablets, laptops, desktop computers, kiosk systems, virtual reality HMDs and augmented reality smart glasses. Omnivision's leading sensor technology contributes to the miniature form factor and mass market cost level of the new eye tracking platform for all displays.

Visit SMI booth 1022 at the Siggraph Conference in Los Angeles (Aug 11 - 13, 2015) to experience the benefits of eye tracking for a broad range of scientific, professional and consumer applications.

The integration of eye tracking into user interfaces is truly game-changing for how users will experience and employ digital devices in the future. Gaze based interaction can be entirely hands-free and integrated with other modalities, for more efficiency and safety in mobile applications. Attentive and context-aware user interfaces anticipate user needs, optimize information processing and focus information content. By adding information to a screen, or by superimposing information onto real objects, the user has instant access to gaze-sensitive, context relevant information.

Animating rendered characters and avatars with natural gaze, eye and blink behavior, creates a completely different level of affection and empathy in social presence and interactions. SMI's eye tracking technology can provide the biometrics to identify and mimic user behavior in virtual spaces.

For virtual and augmented reality products, visual stress and dizziness are reduced through personal display calibration. This procedure adjusts the scene projection to the user's eye physiognomy on the basis of continuous and accurate measurements of the user's biometric data. In VR applications, low latency gaze data are used for foveated rendering, which optimizes visualization as well as the assignment of processing resources.

SMI has more than two decades of experience with OEMs and globally renowned research institutes. SMI Eye Tracking Technology has been used by more than 5 million users under the broadest range of conditions. This is complemented by a track record of more than 20 successful eye tracking integrations into commercial OEM devices. The latest eye tracking platform is proven with 100k+ users and SMI's Oculus Rift DK2 eye tracking upgrade is a gold standard for HMDs.

"SMI's eye tracking technology is extremely robust across a wide range of applications operating in dramatically different lighting," said Chris Yiu, senior strategic marketing manager at OmniVision. "This is critical in bringing eye tracking out of controlled environments to mass market use in fields where eye tracking and gaze interaction can provide great benefits, such as gaming, training, automotive, mobile devices and info terminals."

Christian Villwock, Director of SMI's OEM Business Unit: "SMI has an unmatched track record with OEMs and users. Based on this experience, our technology outperforms in accuracy, robustness and freedom of movement. We are looking forward to seeing many new applications and insights enabled by SMI's world's first eye tracking platform covering all major consumer displays."
