x-Mobility Enables Video Calls for MVNOs and OTTs

Deal with TokBox, a Telefónica company, opens up new video calling possibilities for MVNOs and OTTs

London - x-Mobility now enables its MVNO and OTT customers to offer video calls to their subscribers thanks to a new deal with TokBox, a Telefónica company.

Using the OpenTok platform from TokBox, x-Mobility gives MVNOs and OTTs access to simple APIs which utilise WebRTC – offering real-time access to video calling without the need for plug-ins, app download or other third party extras.

“Video is the future of mobile communications. Whether it is keeping in touch with friends and family or having important business conversations, many people prefer video to voice,” said Shanks Kulam, Chief Mobile Officer at x-Mobility. “Our new relationship with TokBox enables MVNOs and OTTs to offer new, exciting services to their user base through video.”

The OpenTok platform is device, browser and operating system agnostic. It supports group and one-to-one conversations, includes the ability for users to record calls, and uses encrypted and authenticated infrastructure so that customer data is always private and secure.

From the simplest of one-to-one video chats to complex work place conference calls, from customer service calls over video to friends’ group chats, x-Mobility now opens up a whole new range of possibilities for MVNOs and OTTs.

OpenTok is a certified TRUSTe Safe Harbour and provides security at multiple levels including restricting endpoint access to OpenTok sessions, providing a role-based security model, and securing the basic voice and video traffic that moves through the OpenTok cloud and between endpoints. In addition, OpenTok is compatible with third party platforms that can provide extra complementary layers of security.

“We know that everyone is taking a close look at video and how it will work for them. So it’s great that MVNOs and OTTs can now easily add our functionality to their services,” said Lawrence Ford, Head of Business Development - Europe, TokBox. “Video services will soon be a key differentiator for operators, so x-Mobility’s MVNO and OTT customers can now be one step ahead.”

The enabling of video calls comes on top of the announcement by x-Mobility that it can offer MVNOs services beyond traditional telephony, including 4G data services and Virtual Mobile Number services. New MVNOs and OTTs, enabled by x-Mobility, can now offer their subscribers video calls, 4G and multiple virtual numbers.

About x-Mobility
x-Mobility is a Mobile Virtual Network Aggregator (MVNA), providing a white-labelled 4G LTE MVNO & Virtual Number MVNO service for brands wishing to enter the mobile space. x-Mobility holds a full MVNO licence and provides all the services required for a brand to create its own MVNO proposition.

The target audience for x-Mobility’s service is those companies that, for a variety of reasons, don’t want to or can’t deal with the MNO directly. Mobile network operators constantly receive requests from brands interested in extending their offering into the mobile space, yet can only deal with a small number each year. Therefore many potentially very successful MVNOs are turned down by the MNOs. x-Mobility’s MVNA service can help to resolve this.

By using x-Mobility, brands can launch their own MVNO service within a quarter of the time and at a fraction of the cost of the direct-to-operator model. x-Mobility is the only company providing pre and post-paid voice and data services as a white-label MVNO solution on the Hutchison 3G network.
