Block & Track – Anti-theft Vehicle Tracking System using Cell phones. An 18-year-old Mombasa high school graduate with no training in electronics, Morris Mbetsa, has invented the “Block & Track”, a vehicle anti-theft system using mobile phones. The system uses a combination of voice, DTMF and SMS text messages over cell-based phone service to carry codes and messages that allow control of some of a vehicles’ electrical systems including the ignition to manage vehicle activation and disabling remotely in real time, just in case the thief managed to get by his permission-based ignition system. Interestingly, ‘Block & Track’ also allows the user to listen to conversations going on inside the vehicle in realtime. Video follows after the jump.
