The solution brings 3G high-speed data connectivity to the automobile and enables previously unseen navigation capabilities. The MMI’s embedded 3G connectivity also allows the car to perform as a mobile “hot spot”, allowing passengers to connect their Wi-Fi devices to the Internet from the vehicle. Optus buys 3G spectrum from Qualcomm

Optus buys 3G spectrum from QualcommOptus has signed an agreement to acquire additional spectrum licences for 10 megahertz of paired spectrum in the 2100MHz band from Qualcomm. The deal is subject to approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). Optus said that the deal will double its 3G (2100MHz) paired spectrum in the eight capital cities from 10MHz to 20MHz.

UMTS Forum 3G-UMTS Subscriptions have reached 500 millionThe UMTS Forum (www.umts-forum.org) confirms that subscriptions to 3G/UMTS networks have reached 500 million. The milestone comes just over eight years after the world’s first commercial 3G/WCDMA network was launched by Japanese operator NTT DOCOMO.
