Nokia has announced that the N-Gage gaming service will be shut down in less than a year. Games will now be sold through the Ovi Store. The N-Gage.com site will remain in operation throughout 2010, with the exception of the N-Gage Store which will remain open until the end of September 2010.
N-Gage games can be purchased until the end of September 2010. While the N-Gage.com site together with the N-Gage Arena and other community features will remain in operation throughout 2010, the Ovi Store will be the new central place for all the mobile games that Nokia and other publishers offer from this point forward. We will no longer publish new games for the N-Gage platform.
N-Gage is now available for the Nokia N97. You can get N-Gage by opening the ‘Software update’ and download the N-Gage client from there. After the download and installation process are finished you can navigate to the ‘Games’ folder and start enjoying the new N-Gage application. Unfortunately, not all N-Gage games are available for the N97. The problem is that the games were developed for QVGA screens, most N-Gage devices sport. We can’t wait to enjoy new games running in the full screen mode on Nokia N97.
Nokia has launched the first cross-services game, Dance Fabulous for N-Gage. The game by Nokia incorporates both a music and gaming experience and offers its players a new way to enjoy and listen to music. Through a collaboration between Nokia, Interscope Records and music legend Dave Stewart, Dance Fabulous also introduces a pioneering artist, Cindy Gomez, including a dancing Gomez avatar and her brand new songs. Players of Dance Fabulous perform their own choreography and collect points by creating cool moves and dancing to the music. In addition to customizing their own avatars, players can mix and match between a variety of dance styles and dance sets and share their fabulous moves with friends and other players via the N-Gage Arena. Nokia has announced the slimmest N-Gage device released to date at just 12mm thin, it’s Nokia 5630 XpressMusic. Nokia 5630 XpressMusic has both HSDPA and HSUPA enabled, allowing upload speeds of up to 2 Mbps, a 3.2 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and 4x digital zoom, S60 music player, standard 3.5mm headphone connector, stereo Bluetooth support, FM and Internet radio, as well as microSD expansion slot for storing all your music with a 4GB microSD memory card that comes in the box. There are also pre-installed softwares, aside from the standard S60 apps, there’s the built-in widget support, Ovi Share and Nokia Messaging.
Nokia 5630 XpressMusic will go on sale in selected countries in the second quarter of 2009 for around 199 Euros (before the usual taxes and subsidies).
