Orange partners with Netvibe to offer mobile widgetsOrange and Netvibes have announced a partnership to bring the world’s largest collection of mobile widgets to all types of mobile phone user across an extensive range of handsets. Netvibes’ huge catalogue of nearly 200,000 real-time widgets will be available on Orange widgets, a service featuring on 80% of handsets shipped by Orange. It will also be available on djinngo mobile, an Orange service open to any mobile phone user in the world. Intel and Orange collaborate on MeeGo platform

Intel and Orange have announced a strategic agreement to deliver Orange multimedia services across a number of devices based on the Intel Atom Processor and MeeGo software platform. MeeGo, a result of a merger of the Linux-based Moblin and Maemo software projects unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, enables an open software environment for rapid development of a range of smart, PC-like devices and exciting new services. The EUR2 for 2MB daily data bundle is designed to offer Orange customers peace of mind when accessing mobile data services anywhere in the EU. It is designed to give customers the confidence to check their mail, surf the web and access social networking sites abroad, safe in the knowledge that they know exactly what the cost will be when they return home. Specifically for iPhone customers and launching in France first with some other countries to follow, Orange is also offering a EUR5 for 10MB daily data roaming. HTC Desire for Orange UK available in April

HTC Desire for Orange UK available in AprilOrange has announced it will be launching the much anticipated HTC Desire, the next Android device to be ranged by Orange in the UK. Available this spring across all Orange consumer retail and business channels, the HTC Desire will be free on selected consumer pay monthly and business price plans. The HTC Desire will be available from Orange shops and www.orange.co.uk/shop in April 2010.

Offering a rich, intuitive browsing touch interface and premium design, the 3G+ enabled Desire is the latest device to feature Google’s 2.1 Android operating system, allowing users unrestricted access to thousands of amazing tools and applications which can be downloaded straight to the handset. The device features the superfast Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor and as part of Orange’s Signature range, users will be able to access great Orange services direct from the home screen, including Orange’s own sat-nav product, Orange Maps, as well as Orange TV, Photography, Games and Orange Windows Live. Alcatel OT-980 Android Slider Phone spottedThe good folks at FrAndroid have some hands-on pictures and video review of the Alcatel OT-980 with Android 1.6. The prototype design reminds us of the Palm Pre. The mobile phone comes with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, QVGA resistive touchscreen, 600MHz processor, 192MB RAM, 3G, WiFi, GPS, accelerometer, 2 megapixel camera, microSD card support, and 3.5mm headset jack.

GSA confirms 51 LTE network commitments in 24 countries, 19 LTE networks to be in commercial service in 2010

Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) confirms there are 51 LTE network commitments in 24 countries (Armenia, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, USA, and Uzbekistan), an increase of 96% over the past 8 months. With the first commercial LTE network launches just around the corner, GSA also anticipates that up to 19 LTE networks will be in commercial service by end 2010. 36 LTE networks are expected to be in service by end 2012.
