A new patent application from Apple reveals a technology entitled “Motion Based Input Selection” that can replace traditional door keys with motion-sensitive electronic alternatives that can be opened via your iPhone. Nicknamed the iKey, the technology would let Apple devices like the iPhone, iPod or possibly even the iPad to replace your key. Using RFID (near field communication) it could be used to secure your eWallet with a simple passcode (perhaps on the next-gen iPhone 4G with iPhone 4.0 ?). LG plans to release a new Android phone with a number of built-in services in South Korea, the LG LU2300. It will include augmented reality service, probably Google Goggles.
LG LU2300 will feature Android 2.1, Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, WVGA AMOLED touchscreen, 5MP camera that can take 720p video at 30 fps.
LG LU2300 is scheduled to be released in the second quarter this year.

According to a job listing, Apple is looking to hire an engineering manager to handle “platform bring-up.”
From the job description:
The Core Platform team within Apple’s Core OS organization is looking for a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms. The team is responsible for low level platform architecture, firmware, core drivers and bring-up of new hardware platforms. The team consists of talented engineers with experience in hardware, firmware, IOKit drivers, security and platform architecture.
This position requires a very technical and hands-on leader, experience in working closely with hardware team and a deep understanding of bare metal software. You must be a highly self-motivated individual who seeks to create a dynamic and creative team environment in which old problems are solved in new and innovative ways.

From the MTS’s BlackBerry Software downloads site, a new firmware is available for the 8530 on MTS Mobility. It seems that MTS will probably launch BlackBerry Curve 8530 soon.

A new report from BGR says that Android 2.1 OS update will be coming for the Motorola CLIQ next month, sometime in March.

A technician in a sprint store has spotted a list of upcoming handset software updates. The WebOS 1.4 will be available for Palm Pre/Pixi to sprint customers on February 15th. The upcoming release is apparently an update to webOS 1.3.5.1, bld 220. It adds some new features such as phonebook importing and exporting, video capture and editing, and calendar and messaging enhancements.
