Verizon 4G LTE hits 50 MbpsVerizon Wireless has announced that its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network field trials in the United States have demonstrated wireless data speeds that are significantly faster than today’s 3G network speeds. Trials in Boston and Seattle indicate the network is capable of peak download speeds of 40 to 50 megabits per second (Mbps) and peak upload speeds of 20 to 25 Mbps. Verizon makes wireless calls to Chile free after 88 earthquakeResponding to the devastating earthquake in Chile, Verizon Wireless has waived all calling fees for its customers trying to reach loved ones in Chile. Verizon will waive all long-distance usage charges for calls from its residential landline and Verizon Wireless phones to Chile, from Feb. 26 through Mar. 6.*

CDMA Nexus One on FCC?

CDMA Nexus One on FCCA device similar to the “superphone” by Google, Nexus One has passed the FCC with dual-band CDMA EVDO radios. The FCC documents describes the model number is PB99300, which is very similar to Nexus One, PB9910. There is a strong probability that the new HTC phone is the CDMA version of the Nexus One. The device is at the FCC, meaning we could see it hitting some U.S. operator’s portfolio (Verizon?) in the near future.

China Telecom KDDI and Verizon Wireless join GSMA to launch commercial LTE servicesThe GSMA has announced that China Telecom, KDDI and Verizon Wireless have gained membership to the GSMA following their commitment to deploy commercial services based on Long-Term Evolution (LTE), the next-generation wireless technology for Mobile Broadband. China Telecom, KDDI, and Verizon Wireless are three of the world’s largest CDMA operators and will begin the commercial deployments of LTE as early as 2010. LTE, when combined with the expansive footprint of these operators’ existing Mobile Broadband services, will deliver high-speed services to more than 150 million* customers over the next three years. Qualcomm has also joined the GSMA as an associate member and will work with the operators to aid the smooth integration of LTE with existing Mobile Broadband technologies.
