CSR’s Ultra Low Power (ULP) dual-mode Bluetooth Silicon Debut. It’s a good thing that CSR has debuted their dual-mode ULP/Bluetooth 2.1 chip. Previously known as Wibree, Ultra Low Power (ULP) (the next-generation bluetooth standard) allows for 10 times lower power consumption during regular Bluetooth connection and a 50-fold decrease in power-draw during Bluetooth data transfers.
The ULP technology gets away with this minimal power consumption by stripping down the Bluetooth standard and doing away with the frequency spectrum-bloat. Unfortunately, ULP isn’t compatible with current Bluetooth standards. The new Bluetooth module from CSR ensures old and new devices will be able to stay connected with Bluetooth standards – whatever they may be. We’re expecting shipments to start later in 2008.
