WiFi Access Point to Skyhook Wireless Database. The Wi-Fi Positioning System from Skyhook Wireless is a software-only location platform that provides 20 meter positioning accuracy to any Wi-Fi enabled mobile device. Unlike satellite based GPS systems, WPS uses terrestrial based Wi-Fi access points to determine location. Skyhook’s WiFi database is a great way to increase the accuracy of your iPhone v1.1.3’s faux-GSP positional features. With WiFi range maxing out at something like 100 feet, using WiFi access points to pin-point your location is a fairly accurate method - providing that you have a WiFi AP in range. iPhone Dev Team Jailbreak “Real” Method on eBay. The “real” iPhone Jailbreak method is for sale on eBay. Well, it is not the actual jailbreak method itself that’s for sale, but rather an iPhone that has been jailbroken using this method. The current jailbreak is referred to as a “soft jailbreak” because it doesn’t really alter the iPhone v1.1.3 baseband or kernel.
Jonathan Zdziarski’s iPhone uses the “Secret” jailbreak that the iPhone Dev Team uses to jailbreak their own iPhones - a method that modifies the baseband and kernel for fully compliant, bug-less jailbreak firmware. He has put his own jailbroken iPhone 4GB up on eBay with the following description: Continue reading ‘iPhone Dev Team Jailbreak “Real” Method on eBay’
iPhone 1.1.3 firmware allows you to put icons on your home screen for websites, but many of us want to put phone numbers on there for a Speed Dial screen. iPhone developer, Nate True put a little hack together that lets you have a (somewhat) speedy speed dial icon. There’s no jailbreaking required for this one - it can all be done using Apple-approved Web Clip creation.
Along the same lines as that WebClips-based homescreen picture album hack, Nate True has come up with a solution that will put speed-dial thumbnail icons on your homescreen. The hack will take a bit of webpage-coding know-how (or just some instruction-following know-how), and a web server that you can use. iPhone Firmware 1.1.3 Jailbreak Details. Software/firmware revision 1.1.3 has been jailbroken (full read/write access to the filesystem), meaning that unofficial third-party applications can be installed under this release. The jailbreak method requires hardware modification. This means that unless you 1) really know what you are doing or 2) are crazy, you won’t be attempting the hardware mod. Secondly, indications are that the team who put the jailbreak together has no plans to release it - at least not until Apple releases the SDK in late February.
