Huawei Android and Symbian powered smartphones next year. Huawei has recently announced its intention to make smartphones based on Android and Symbian. The first Symbian and Android Huawei handsets will be launched in the first half of 2009, it will be the operators which will brand the devices with their logos, without Huawei’s branding on them. No word on the features, design or prices of the devices yet.

Android OS RC30 Firmware Update for T-Mobile G1 to fix Android Jailbreak. The new Android OS RC30 update is being rolled out by Google to Fix Potential Android Jailbreak. It will apparently remedy the exploit that enables users to gain root access on their G1 handsets via Android’s telnetd service. T-Mobile G1 owners will apaprently get the update over the next few days.
According to Google,
We’ve been notified of this issue (Jailbreaking of Android) and have developed a fix. We’re currently working with our partners to push the fix out and updating the open source code base to reflect these changes.

Samsung i770 Saga, Samsung Omnia, and HTC Touch Pro on Verizon in November. A new report says that three handsets will be coming to Verizon in November, they are Samsung i770 Saga, Samsung Omnia, and HTC Touch Pro.
Samsung i770 is apparently the successor to the previous Samsung i760 model, it has D-pad / mouse mode setup. Samsung Omnia features a large touchscreen, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, a 5MP camera, GPS, 8GB of internal memory and more. HTC Touch Pro is a slider with a full-sized QWERTY keyboard.

Android for Japan in 2009. Following the previous reports about T-Mobile G1 finally official in the U.S. and also Android handsets to be offered by China Mobile? It’s now for Japan, NTT DoCoMo plans to sell Android phone in Japan next year. DoCoMo president Ryuji Yamada made the comment at a press briefing in Tokyo yesterday. He also said the company aims to offer “close to 10” so-called smart phones next year.

ZTE smartphones in 2009. According to research firm Ovum, ZTE is now looking to impact the market on the high-end. ZTE will begin shipping Windows-Mobile-powered devices with Vodafone next year and there are signs of other such deals. The Chinese company also confirmed that it also plans to support Linux to meet operator demand for such handsets. Which variant or variants ZTE plans to support is as yet unclear.

AT&T Mirage aka Samsung i900 Omnia next month? Following the previous report about Samsung i910, i907 Omnia on FCC, A new rumor says that AT&T’s version of the Samsung Omnia (the upcoming Samsung i907) may come as “Mirage” and it could launch on October 7th. As we’re already aware, AT&T loves to re-brand their handsets. If this is true, “Mirage” seems like a perfectly fine name. Stay tuned.
