Verizon 3G network enhancements across Florida completed. Verizon Wireless announced that it has completed enhancements to its most advanced 3G high-speed wireless network (EV-DO Rev. A) throughout Florida, allowing customers to browse the Internet, download music, send e-mail and multimedia messages, and access other advanced wireless services more reliably and at even faster broadband speeds.
The enhancements to the EV-DO Rev. A network — which stands for Evolution-Data Optimized Revision A — took nearly two years, and entailed installing the most advanced hardware and software on thousands of cell sites in the Verizon Wireless network in Florida, as well as updating and optimizing technology in five Verizon Wireless regional network switching facilities throughout the state. Verizon Wireless services being offered by Qwest. Qwest announced that it is now offering Verizon Wireless services to all new residential and business customers in its residential service area. Through the five-year agent agreement announced earlier this year, new Qwest customers can now purchase Verizon Wireless products and services, including handsets, smartphones and BlackBerry devices, as well as high-speed wireless broadband services for e-mail, Internet access and multimedia services, such as mobile music and video. Ericsson HSPA network upgrade in Japan. Ericsson has just signed an agreement with a leading Japanese operator, Softbank Mobile, to expand and upgrade it’s HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) network. Ericsson will provide e-HSPA (enhanced HSPA) on new and existing base stations in high traffic areas, in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.

Telstra’s Trial for 4G Mobile Broadband. Telstra’s partnership with Ericsson results finishing a trial of the enhanced High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology. Second Life for Mobile Phones. Vollee released the first beta application to allow Second Life residents with 3G and/or WiFi enabled phones to “explore the entire virtual world from their handsets.” You can now download Vollee mobile access to World of Second Life. Vollee service requires high speed connections, so you need to have a 3G or WiFi enabled phone (3G, HSPA, EV-DO, UMTS…).

HSUPA for Vodacom South Africa. The launch of High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) service has been announced by Vodacom in South Africa. HSUPA is an enhancement of Vodacom’s current HSDPA 3.6 service. South African mobile users will be able to experience download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps, although the average achievable speeds are somewhat lower. AT&T to boost 3G speeds to 20Mbps, HSPA release 7 by 2009. We’ve heard 4G LTE Network by AT&T in 2012, Recently AT&T has announced that it plans to roll out its HSPA release 7 network in 2009. The new 3G technology will apparently boost data speeds to 20Mbps - more than 5 times what current AT&T 3G users can expect today.
