Two HSPA-enabled Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) launched by SFR in France. a major French operator, SFR, has launched two Linux-based Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs): The SFR M! PC Pocket 3G+ and the Archos 3G+, that connect to the operator’s national HSPA mobile broadband network via embedded modules from Option.
SFR M! PC Pocket 3G+, features a 4.8-inch touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Intel Atom CPU and 4GB of integrated memory. On the other hand, The Archos 3G+ features the same kind of touchscreen (4.8-inch) with storage capacity going up to 30GB - gives users an entirely new way to enjoy the Web, digital media and TV on a thin and extremely fast handheld tablet. Linux is also running the show, and Option provided necessary HSPA embedded modules to make these babies sing along SFR’s 3G network.

Telstra Turbo 7+ USB modem. A new HSPA-enabled modem, Telstra Turbo 7+ USB Series Modem from Sierra Wireless has been announced by the Australian carrier. It provides up to 7.2Mbps download and 1.9Mbps upload speeds on the carrier’s Next G network. Interestingly, these speeds could be further increased via future firmware upgrades. Novatel Ovation MC950D HSPA USB modem for Fido Canada. Fido adds the HSPA-enabled Ovation MC950D USB modem to its offering. This modem comes with quad-band EDGE support, it should enable downlink speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and uplink speeds up to 2.1 Mbps. No word on pricing nor availability, but Rogers Wireless is selling the USB modem for $49 with a contract.

Ericsson HSPA network upgrade in Japan. Ericsson has just signed an agreement with a leading Japanese operator, Softbank Mobile, to expand and upgrade it’s HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) network. Ericsson will provide e-HSPA (enhanced HSPA) on new and existing base stations in high traffic areas, in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.

T-Mobile HSPA Mobile Broadband in UK. With T-Mobile’s HSUPA mobile broadband service in UK, T-Mobile becomes the first national mobile broadband service that offers HSPA network (HSDPA and HSUPA). T-Mobile has upgraded its HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) network, with a possible maximum speed of 7.2Mbps and HSUPA (High-Speed Uplink Packet Access) to 1.4Mbps upload speeds.

Aside from the HSPA radio, both devices (MD400 Mobile Broadband USB Modem, and MD400g Mobile Broadband GPS USB Modem) also pack microSD and Memory Stick Micro (M2) slots and the latter model (MD400g). Apart from an in-built antenna, an innovative additional swivel antenna optimizes the performance when in use. When closed, it covers and protects the retractable USB connector.
