Android for Japan in 2009. Following the previous reports about T-Mobile G1 finally official in the U.S. and also Android handsets to be offered by China Mobile? It’s now for Japan, NTT DoCoMo plans to sell Android phone in Japan next year. DoCoMo president Ryuji Yamada made the comment at a press briefing in Tokyo yesterday. He also said the company aims to offer “close to 10” so-called smart phones next year.

100 Mbps Mobile Broadband. According to the GSM Association, Mobile broadband will reach speeds of 100Mbps before fixed line broadband. New 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology could deliver ’super-fast’ speeds on the move. “Tests show LTE can produce speeds up to 186 Mbps,” said GSMA director of technology Dan Warren. But, they’re not the actual data speeds, they vary with distance from the base station and interference. The actual data speeds of 100Mbps are expected by 2010 in Japan and South Korea, with Europe getting 100Mbps wireless data speeds by 2012.

Ericsson HSPA network upgrade in Japan. Ericsson has just signed an agreement with a leading Japanese operator, Softbank Mobile, to expand and upgrade it’s HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) network. Ericsson will provide e-HSPA (enhanced HSPA) on new and existing base stations in high traffic areas, in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.

LG KF300 Wine for Europe and Japan. A new fashion phone was unveiled by LG in Japan and Europe. LG KF300 Wine clamshell is a tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGGE phone that sports two displays, 2.2-inch QVGA main screen, and 1.3-inch 128×160 pixels external display. There are also a 2 megapixel camera with auto-focus, Bluetooth connectivity support, 10 MB of internal memory, media player, FM radio, and microSD memory expansion slot. The fashion phone measures at 98.8×49.5×16.2 mm. No word on pricing yet.

Mobile Picture Books in Japan. A printing company is launching its first cell phone picture book, the mobile picture books are designed to be read page by page, without much scrolling - just clicking from page to page. There will be both popular children’s titles and original content published. The company hopes to have 50 titles and 10,000 downloads by September of this year 2008. The mobile Picture Books are available each for 100-200 yen (about $1-2).
