Two HSPA-enabled Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) launched by SFR in France. a major French operator, SFR, has launched two Linux-based Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs): The SFR M! PC Pocket 3G+ and the Archos 3G+, that connect to the operator’s national HSPA mobile broadband network via embedded modules from Option.
SFR M! PC Pocket 3G+, features a 4.8-inch touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Intel Atom CPU and 4GB of integrated memory. On the other hand, The Archos 3G+ features the same kind of touchscreen (4.8-inch) with storage capacity going up to 30GB - gives users an entirely new way to enjoy the Web, digital media and TV on a thin and extremely fast handheld tablet. Linux is also running the show, and Option provided necessary HSPA embedded modules to make these babies sing along SFR’s 3G network.

Access Linux Platform v3.0 and ALP mini - the next-generation successor to the Palm OS. We’ve previously heard some reports about Palm Nova Upcoming OS, and Palm Nova - Linux-based Palm 2.0 OS?, Recently, Access has announced version 3.0 of the Access Linux Platform. Providing little technical details, the company says the new version includes LiMo compatibility and a new advanced UI that features highly detailed visuals, smooth transitions and animations.
The company has also announced ALP mini that is targeted at feature phones and low-end smartphones to Internet-enabled, beyond-PC devices, such as portable navigation devices, portable media players and set-top boxes. Motorola VE66 5MP Linux cameraphone. The latest unofficial report shows a new Motorola VE66 that will come with a built-in WiFi support, 3G (HSDPA), 2.4-inch 16 million color screen, stereo Bluetooth, and a microSD memory card slot. There are also Freescale’s SCM-A11 500MHz CPU, Montavista v2.6.10 Linux (nope, not Android). It’s not clear whether the camera module will use the same Kodak lens as the Motorola ZN5, though. No word on release date yet. Stay tuned.

Android-Symbian Merger just Speculation. Following the previous rumor about Symbian + Android Collaboration? Officials from Symbian, Nokia, and Google all dismissed the prediction — contained most recently in a report released yesterday by mobile analysis firm J. Gold Associates — as pure speculation.
Dismissing it as a “rumor,” a Nokia spokesperson declined to comment on the report. Symbian officials were unavailable but have dismissed such talk in private.
“We don’t comment on market rumors or speculations,” said a Google spokesperson.
“There is no substantive basis to this,” said mobile analyst Carmi Levy, senior VP for strategic consulting at AR Communications. “Nokia was quite adamant last November when it first shrugged off suggestions of a possible merger with Android.”

Openmoko Neo Freerunner distributed around the world by Koolu. Following the previous report, OpenMoko FreeRunner UI Screenshots, Openmoko has announced an agreement with Canada-based Koolu to distribute OpenMoko’s Linux-based Neo FreeRunner in the Americas, U.K., and the European Union. Koolu is distributing the FreeRunner under the name W.E. Phone, and is bundling it with Google Apps. Koolu, known for its innovations in easy-to-use services such as Google Apps and Skype, will distribute the Openmoko Neo FreeRunner phone first to developers, and later to consumers as Google Apps go mobile. Koolu has created a program unique in the industry by offering free Neo FreeRunner phones in a referral program for Google Apps world-wide. minifring - fring for Java ME, Maemo Linux. fring has released its app with a special version called ‘minifring’ for these phones that don’t yet support voice over IP calling. Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones running on JavaME (J2ME) si now supported. With minifring these users will now be able to communicate with growing community of fringsters worldwide. There’s also support for Linux (Nokia N810) users with full fring features including internet calls, chat, presence and more + some unique features. OpenMoko FreeRunner UI Screenshots. Following on the previous OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner Available, Recently we’ve heard that Ars Technica has got their screenshots of the FreeRunner’s GTK-based Linux stack (om2007.2). Apple’s Webkit powers the FreeRunner’s browser, and a terminal application gives the user root-access to a BusyBox shell. There are a lot of similarities between om2007.2 and Nokia’s Maemo platform—both are based on GTK+ and use OpenedHand’s lightweight Matchbox window manager. OpenedHand also developed several other important pieces of the om2007.2 stack, including the personal information management suite, which is called Pimlico.
