Iris Browser for Windows Mobile hits final preview. The final preview of Iris browser for WinMo has been announced by Torch Mobile, version 1.0.13 is now available for WinMo smartphones.
This release features primarily stability fixes and improvements on memory usage, network stability, and rendering quality, including fixes for Asian language sites.
Iris Browser for Windows Mobile also includes two major new features: page overview, and single-column (MDR) mode.

O2 offers Home + Mobile Broadband. A joint mobile and fixed broadband deal has been offered by O2 for its customers.
The joint offer is available for customers signing up to O2 Mobile Broadband between 1 August and 31 October 2008 who live within the O2 Home Broadband network – approximately 60 per cent of the UK population. The deal is also available to existing O2 Mobile and Home Broadband customers. Customers wanting to upgrade to a higher speed package or not covered by O2’s broadband network will receive a £7.50 per month discount on their chosen plan for 12 months.

Nokia 8208, 3608 CDMA leaked. Two new Nokia phones has been revealed for CDMA networks, Nokia 8208 and Nokia 3608. Both handsets target North American market. Nokia 8208 features a dual-sliding form factor like the N95 and N96 smartphones have. This mobile phone suits mobile internet fans with its 3G connectivity and EV-DO Rev A. The 8208 model has also a 2.2″-inch QVGA screen, 3 megapixel camera, GPS, FM Radio, dedicated music keys, standard 3.5mm audio jack, and of course the microSD slot. Unlike the 8208, Nokia 3608 is only a low-to-mid range clamshell, sporting two screens (main display is 2-inch 176×220 pixels), 1.3 megapixel camera, GPS receiver, FM radio, external touch-sensitive music keys, and a microSD memory slot.

Mobile Internet subscribers to 1.7 billion by 2013. According to new study by Juniper Research, Mobile web users will rise driven by New Web 2.0 collaborative business models. The number of subscribers using mobile Internet services will rise from 577 million currently, to top 1.7bn by 2013, spurred by demand for collaborative applications known collectively as ‘web 2.0’, and greater 2.5/3G penetration. HTC New Mobile Internet Device (MID). Market sources in Taiwan indicated that HTC is developing new MID (Mobile Internet Device) products, using Intel’s Atom and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset platforms. New devices are likely to be unveiled in the second half of 2008. According to HTC’s President and CEO, Peter Chou, they will continue to focus on “Internet experience through mobile devices” but will also adjust its deployment of UMPC products (HTC Shift). The reason for the change in their UMPC strategy is the rise of small and affordable laptop computers like the Asus eeePC, which people buy more.

Mobile Broadband for ‘Free’ next year. A broadband comparison site has claimed, Mobile broadband could be bundled with standard contracts as early as 2009. According to Top 10 Broadband, If the current rate of price-cutting continues, mobile broadband will soon be perceived as free of charge. “It is only a matter of time before mobile broadband modems are offered for free with mobile phone packages,” said Jessica McArdle, a spokeswoman at Top 10 Broadband. In another analogy, they say that the uptake of mobile broadband (dongles) is at the same sort of rate as it was for mobile phones in the early 1990s.

LG Prada with HSDPA for NTT DoCoMo. A full touch screen mobile phone, “PRADA Phone by LG”, was just announced by NTT DoCoMo to be marketed for the Japanese cellphone users. The PRADA concept is faithfully represented in a special leather case, accessories and custom-tailored screen graphics that accompany the handset.
LG Prada features include an intuitive, full-size touch screen with vibration touch to improve usability. This function activates whenever users touch screen icons to make a call, use e-mail, take and view photos or listen to music.
