Symbian + Android Collaboration? According to Reuters, Symbian could expand its collaboration with Google Inc to the operating system level as it moves to grant free and open access to its software platform. (possibly Android?) “We already work together and so whatever collaboration, if there is an opportunity, we will be happy to collaborate with them,” Symbian chief executive Nigel Clifford told reporters in Tokyo. Symbian software is used in some 60 percent of smartphones — mobile handsets with computer-like capabilities — but Apple Inc’s iPhone or new categories of phones based on Google’s Android software could challenge that dominance. Android delayed to Q4 2008. We’ve been waiting for Android mobile OS, Google planned to have the new phones on the market by the second half of this year, but it seems the plans are slowed. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google’s Android hardware won’t arrive until the fourth quarter. It’s good to hear that T-Mobile USA expects to deliver an Android-powered phone in the fourth period. Samsung SGH-i780 for U.S. (as the SGH-i788?). We’ve heard Samsung SGH-i780 Confirmed for Europe in the previous post, Recently, a new Samsung phone, listed by the FCC which is called the Samsung SGH-i788, and it seems to be some special version of the already existing i780 model. If you compare FCC’s drawing of the SGH-i788 with the SGH-i780, it looks quite similar.
