NTT DOCOMO + Renesas + Fujitsu + Sharp for HSUPA Mobile Phone. NTT DOCOMO, Renesas Technology, Fujitsu Limited, and Sharp Corporation announced that they plan to jointly develop the SH-Mobile G4 single-chip LSI device, and a platform incorporating it, to support the HSUPA/HSDPA/W-CDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE (2G) mobile telephony standards. Android for Japan in 2009. Following the previous reports about T-Mobile G1 finally official in the U.S. and also Android handsets to be offered by China Mobile? It’s now for Japan, NTT DoCoMo plans to sell Android phone in Japan next year. DoCoMo president Ryuji Yamada made the comment at a press briefing in Tokyo yesterday. He also said the company aims to offer “close to 10” so-called smart phones next year.

Intelligent Li-ION Battery developed by NTT DoCoMo. NTT DoCoMo exhibited its intelligent Li-ION battery for mobile phones during the Wireless Japan 2008 conference held this July 22 to 24. The intelligent Li-ION battery has been developed by NTT DoCoMo together with Mitsumi Electric Co Ltd that can detect troubles within the Li-ION battery and relay it to the user. The 8-bit microcomputer embedded onto the pack is responsible for monitoring the battery condition. Based on the battery’s current, voltage, temperature and other indicators; its state of deterioration, remaining battery level, and problems with the battery unit could be projected on screen. Interestingly, the battery’s status is stored on the battery itself, so even if a user change phones, he can still view prior recorded data. The leading Japanese mobile operator says that it will use the new intelligent battery packs on its new phone models to come out next year.

ClearPad Sensor for Touchscreen SH906i Clamshell. Synaptics announced today that its ClearPad™ solution is driving the interactive touchscreen in NTT DOCOMO’s new SH906i clamshell handset. Sharp SH906i is the first ClearPad-enabled touchscreen mobile phone in Japan’s mobile handset market. The SH906i uses Synaptics’ ClearPad technology to enable finger-input character recognition capabilities for Japanese character entry. LG Prada with HSDPA for NTT DoCoMo. A full touch screen mobile phone, “PRADA Phone by LG”, was just announced by NTT DoCoMo to be marketed for the Japanese cellphone users. The PRADA concept is faithfully represented in a special leather case, accessories and custom-tailored screen graphics that accompany the handset.
LG Prada features include an intuitive, full-size touch screen with vibration touch to improve usability. This function activates whenever users touch screen icons to make a call, use e-mail, take and view photos or listen to music. Nokia 6124 to support NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode. Nokia in cooperation with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) will launch a customized handset, the 6124 classic. Nokia 6124 Classic will be coming to Taiwan market with support for i-mode. The Nokia classic i-mode, which supports 3.5G HSDPA technology, will be Nokia’s first customized handset that supports NTT DoCoMO’s i-mode value-added services, said CK Cherng, general manager, Nokia Taiwan.
