iPhone 2.2 OS Firmware beta 1. Following the previous iPhone 2.1 Firmware Update, Apple has recently released the beta 1 release of the iPhone 2.2 OS to iPhone developers. Apple debuts new safari interface in iPhone OS 2.2. MobileSafari interface has been tweaked.
The new iteration of MobileSafari eschews the magnifying glass and refresh buttons at the top of the screen, instead displaying the URL bar and search fields side-by-side, much like the desktop version of Safari.
The refresh-button has been moved from beside the URL bar to within. Page refreshes are now accomplished via a tiny icon located inside the URL bar.

Tether Apple iPhone 3G to Laptop. A pair of programs, 3proxy and MobileTerminal can help you to tether a jailbroken iPhone 3G to laptop. This will use your iPhone 3G as a wireless modem. Tethering your iPhone is against the iPhone data plan terms. AT&T could slap you with huge fees if you overuse it.
Here’s the basic rundown:
+ You’ll need a jailbroken iPhone 3G (you can use this iPhone 2.0 Jailbreak Guide with Pwnage Tool 2.0.1)
+ Install 3Proxy and MobileTerminal (available from the “Cydia” application that was installed during the iPhone 3G jailbreak)
+ Create an ad-hoc WiFi network on your laptop
+ Join the network with your iPhone
+ Find out the iPhone’s IP address
+ Open MobileTerminal and run the proxy program
+ Open Safari on your iPhone and open a web page
+ Configure your browser to use the proxy
+ Done.
The folks behind cre.ations.net have a nice tutorial + screenshots to do this. More details are available from here.
Improved WebKit Performance in iPhone 2.0. According to a bit of graphical bar-graph from Daring Fireball, we can know why our iPhone 2.0 OS Safari is now faster compared to the previous iPhone 1.1.4. OS Safari. Yeah, Web pages consistently load faster on 2.0, both via Wi-Fi and EDGE. The graph basically shows Javascript benchmark performance using different iPhone firmware versions. Notice the huge jump between 1.0.1 and 1.1.4. In side-by-side page loading tests between two original iPhones running 1.1.4 and 2.0.0, the new version consistently finished at least a few seconds speedier. The initial jump in Webkit’s Javascript performance is definitely more pronounced than the improvement from 1.1.4 to 2.0, but that’s not to say that Javascript on 2.0 is a significant improvement. Internet-fans should thank Apple for the better mobile browsing
