Sanyo to be acquired by Panasonic

Sanyo to be acquired by Panasonic. Panasonic plans to make Sanyo a subsidiary by around April next year by buying preferred shares owned by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp., Daiwa Securities SMBC Co. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The presidents of the two companies will hold a press conference on November 7th to announce details of the acquisition. The deal will result in one mega-corporation with revenues over ¥11.2 trillion (around $110 billion).

Following on the previous post, Sprint’s QChat official : LG LX400, Samsung Z400, Sanyo PRO-200 and PRO-700 for 40+ Markets, Phone Arena has posted a good review of the Sanyo PRO-700 that was launched as one of four available QChat handsets. Sanyo PRO-700 and the other QChat phones offer CDMA PTT that is interoperable with iDEN. The PRO-700 is certified to Military 810F specifications for dust, vibration, and shock resistance. It’s the first non-Motorola phones to offer Nextel Direct Connect (NDC.) Other features include a QVGA display, GPS and EVDO Rev. A data. Sprint Sanyo PRO-700 is available for a 2-year contract and $79.99. The Sanyo PRO-700 is similar in size to the Motorola KRZR, According to Phone Arena it really feels like a ‘rugged KRZR’. The LX400 by LG, Z400 by Samsung, and PRO-200 and PRO-700 by Sanyo will be available June 15 for purchase by all new and existing customers in Sprint retail stores in the designated markets. It gave us a vague idea of what the successor to the Sanyo Katana would look like. But, we couldn’t figure where Sanyo stuffed that darn external display. It certainly wasn’t going to fit in that little black window that’s shown in the diagrams. Recently Engadget Mobile put their eyes on the Katana LX in the flesh.
