iPhone 2.0.2 OS Firmware. Following the previous iPhone 2.0.1 OS, Apple finally pushes out Apple iPhone 2.0.2 OS via iTunes. According to Apple, this version includes improvements, bug fixes, and supersedes all previous versions. Some users are reporting that they have faster internet browsing, the iPhones running faster, typing lag reduced, and transition from music list to CoverFlow has been updated. Nokia N78 Firmware Update (OTA). A new firmware over-the-air (OTA) update for European Nokia N78 users, it’s a 2MB size v11.043 firmware. The release includes improved stability with Bluetooth (headsets and car kits) and music (playback over a long time and content refresh). Alltel Treo 755p ROM update. A new ROM update for Palm Treo 755p has been released on the Alltel network. Palm only said: “This software update is for a phone reset issue that occurs under certain specific and rare conditions.” This new version 1.03 firmware seems like a stability update.
Maybe you’re already aware of this: Prior to updating you should perform a Hotsync to save your data. Palm advises that users allow up to 45 minutes for the operation. ROM updater executables for users with and without miniSD cards are available for Windows users. Mac users must run the launcher from an external expansion card.

Motorola Firmware Update (T-Mobile W490, Verizon Motorola Q9m, and Verizon Motorola K1m). Motorola released a firmware update to the Verizon-branded Motorola Q9m Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard smartphone, the Verizon Motorola K1m, and the T-Mobile Motorola W490.

ARM Mali-JSR297 Software Update for Mobile 3D Gaming. At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, chip-designer ARM has announced an update to their graphics acceleration software. The ARM Mali-JSR297 software is said to be the “first product to enable developers of Java applications to take advantage of the latest hardware graphics features found in recent GPUs”.

HTC improving Video Acceleration. It’s always nice to see corporate big-wigs actually putting the customer ahead of any internal-policy nonsense. HTC has apparently done an about-face regarding the poor video performance on their HTC smartphones that use Qualcomm’s MSM7500 and MSM7200 chipsets. Peter Chou, HTC’s CEO, and Dr. Florian Seiche, Vice President of HTC Europe, have both stated that HTC will be rolling out some improved video performance for some of its smartphones.
