Telstra HSPA+ Network Upgrades in final stages. Following the previous Telstra’s Trial for 4G Mobile Broadband, Telstra nearly finished with eHSPA/HSPA+ Network Upgrades. Australia-based Telstra is among the first wireless providers in the world to upgrade its network to enhanced HSPA, also known as HSPA+ with download speeds of up to 21Mbps.

Telstra Turbo 7+ USB modem. A new HSPA-enabled modem, Telstra Turbo 7+ USB Series Modem from Sierra Wireless has been announced by the Australian carrier. It provides up to 7.2Mbps download and 1.9Mbps upload speeds on the carrier’s Next G network. Interestingly, these speeds could be further increased via future firmware upgrades. Palm Treo Pro gets Telstra’s ‘Blue Tick’. Treo Pro by Palm gets Telstra Blue Tick of approval as the first smartphone on the Next G network showing that it is recommended for handheld use in metro, rural and regional areas.
According to Telstra Product Management, Executive Director, Mr Ross Fielding, the new Treo Pro will appeal to customers who want to combine style and functionality with strong coverage performance.

Telstra + Three for Next G network. Telstra in Australia has partnered with Hutchison, allowing Three to use it’s Next G network, in areas where the smaller company does not own a network. The deal comes at a good time for Hutch, who posted a half-year loss of $85 mn, but have strong revenue growth and customer acquisitions.
The new arrangement will allow Hutchison, which is growing faster than Optus and No3 mobile group Vodafone, to compete for customers in 96 per cent of the country by the second quarter of next year. Hutchison will also build its own network to another 4 per cent of the country, taking its coverage to 60 per cent of the Australian population.
