Samsung BlackJack II Tips for MP3 Ringtone (Get Rid of 300KB size-limit)

Samsung BlackJack II Tips for MP3 Ringtone (Get Rid of 300KB size-limit)
Samsung BlackJack II Tips for MP3 Ringtone (Get Rid of 300KB size-limit). WMExperts has come up with an interesting workaround and registry edit that allows you to not only set any MP3 of your choosing as a ringtone, but it also gets rid of that annoying 300KB size-limit.

Yes, Now you can use any MP3 file, of any size, as your ringtone
!

Here's the 'Step by Step' to do:
1. Save your MP3 to your Samsung BlackJack II's memory (I like to put my files in "My Documents").
2. Use your BJ2's "My Stuff" file explorer (there is the standard Windows Mobile File Explorer and the "My Stuff" file explorer - use the latter) to navigate to your MP3 file.
3. Highlight your MP3, hit "Menu" and set that MP3 as your ringtone.
4. The "My Stuff" browser will ask you if you want to move the file to your "My Sounds" folder - do it. The file gets copied, not moved, to "My Sounds" so your original MP3 file is still chillin' in the "My Documents" folder.
5. Now to edit the registry to nix that300KB file size limit:
- Go into HKEY_Current User > ControlPanel > Sounds
- Delete the key of FileSizeLimit
6. Done, You should now be able to set any MP3 as your ringtone.

Thanks... I downloaded Mobile Registry Editor 1.1
to make the changes. Works like a champ!!!

What is the hkey? How do I get to it?

multicellphone said...

@Jordan
It's the registry code.

Here's more details for you:
0.You'll need a regedit program (mobile registry editor) so download and install one.
- you may try this:
http: //www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
or other same apps.. (Mobile Registry Editor 1.1 like HD-P used.)
1.First make sure your phone is connected to the computer and ActivSync is running
2.Open the registry editor program
3.You'll see 'HKEY_Current_User'. Click it. Then go to ControlPanel > Sounds
4.then you'll see "File size limit"
5.Delete the key of FileSizeLimit / add a 0 to the already existing number.
6. Done!

Good luck.

I deleted the "file size limit" and now it says " the file size cannot be larger than 0kb".. that's not correct right? how do i fix it?!

multicellphone said...

@Kevin
You should Delete the key of FileSizeLimit. Once you delete it, exit out and restart your phone.

The FileSizeLimit value should have contained the following before you removed it:
Value Name: FileSizeLimit
Value data: 307200
Base: Decimal
Value type: REG_DWORD

In your case, to recover it,
go to HKEY_Current_User > ControlPanel > Sounds. right click (or whatever) on the Sounds folder (not any of the subfolders) and make a new REG_DWORD with the exact name "FileSizeLimit" and add a really big Data Value like "10487200"

That's an alternative: Add a big data value (10MB) instead of 300kb. *example:
Value Name: FileSizeLimit
Value data: 10487200
Base: Decimal
Value type: REG_DWORD

Save it and restart the phone.

I got it!! thank you very much!!

I downloaded a Mobile Registry Editor and followed how to delete the file limit size but in the sounds menu there is not "FileSizeLimit"...would it be called something else? Or am I just missing it somehow?

multicellphone said...

@Jess
Is it a BlackJack II with Windows Mobile 6? There is only a filesizelimit on WinMo 6, WinMo 5 never had one. if you haven't flashed, you'll need to upgrade to WinMo6.

After I installed the mobile registry editor it would not open, how do I get it from my computer to my phone?

multicellphone said...

If the mobile registry editor failed, please try other same apps, there are many mobile registry editors, you may choose one of them that works via google.com e.g. search: "registry editor for pocket pc".

Install the program and connect your BJ2 via the USB cable it came with and edit the phones registry using your computer.

I am having problems keeping my BJ2 "synced" with the CPU. Initially when I plug it into the USB port it connects to the activesync but then after about 30 seconds, it disconnects. Anybody know why I am having this problem and how I can fix it??

Dub said...

Ok, I got the regedit to sync to the phone but now i can't locate the key 'filesizelimit'. I checked my device and I am operating with the Windows Mobile 6 so I don't know where I have went wrong. I went to HKEY_Current User > ControlPanel > Sounds and from there I can't find the filesizelimit key. Scrolling through the list of items in the regedit it goes from 'Email' then to 'IM' and since the list is alphabetical I am missing something here. PLease help!!

multicellphone said...

@Dub
You may try our solution for Kevin. try to make a new REG_DWORD with the exact name “FileSizeLimit” and add a really big Data Value like “10487200?

More details please read the previous comment above.

Maynard said...

I tried to delete the key as originally stated.....but the phone told me i cant exceed 0 kb......so i had to do what Kevin was told and re create the reg_dword and give it a huge value......this is a great guide, but unfortunately its written for people that already understand this kind of thing.....so for the average joe, its tricky until you figure it out.......

instead of deleting the key, just change the value to 30000000 and you will be able to hold a 12 minute song if needed.......i suggest an editing program to create smaller files......anyway, thanks for the help multicell....grassy ass!

I followed the instructions exactly and it worked just fine except now I can't set anything for a ringtone. It says "error the settings could not be opened" and now I have no ringtone at all. Help!

tcullen said...

I get an error with any program saying that it does not support the connected device type. I am using ActiveSync, is there something more I need to do? I tried Resco, and PHM, same error on both. It happens after the install of the program, at the very end.

If there is no "filesize limit" under "sounds", does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Used this last night. Took me a while to find a free registry editor but once I did this fix worked great. I just made the number larger rather than deleting the value. Now my wife's new phone works like it should. Any married person knows, if the wife ain't happy you ain't happy!

Thanks to whoever figured this out!

I tried downloading the PHM but when i tried to install it in my computer it said that another program was required for it to open. help!

Anguiano said...

I cannot get this to work at all' I have done all the steps, using mobile registry editor and when I go back into the phone, and highlight the song in the documents folder to change it to ringtone, it doesn't even offer that option.

I have a Blackjack II and I even used the exact info above and nothings. Am I missing how to go back after I have changed the file size, etc, and highlight the song in the my stuff folder-those directions at the beginning seem a little convoluted for a real newbie. Thanx

HELP! THE REGISTRY DOESNT WORK FOR MY BLACKJACK 2...WAT SHOULD I DO?

fmatt said...

dont delete it, just change the file size limit number to a bigger number!

Gryc said...

Same here but I found out "FileSizeLimit" isn't a sound folder, after going through to control panel and clicking sounds right when you click it, look on the right side of the registry and it should be ther. If not make one by right clicking on sounds and click
new-DWORD. After filename has to be exactly "FileSizeLimit" then Data Value "10487200".

Hope I Helped!!!!!

Gryc said...

Sub folder I meant.
