Sony has announced in Japan the successor to the original Playstation Portable, the PSP2. Under the codename NGP (Next Generation Portable), the PSP2/NGP boasts a 5-inch OLED screen with 960x544 pixels (compared to the original non-touch 4.3-inch in PSP1 with only 480×272 pixels and the 3.8-inch PSP Go), a quad core ARM Cortex A9 processor, quad-core PowerVR SGX534MP4+ GPU, two cameras (front/rear), 3G, built-in GPS, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR ?A2DP/AVRCP/HSP?, WiFi IEEE 802.11b/g/n (n = 1x1) (Infrastructure mode/Ad-hoc mode). Sony NGP is touted as powerful as a PS3.

Sony NGP (Sony PSP2) also comes with multi touch pad (capacitive), built-in stereo speakers, built-in microphone, six-axis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer), three-axis electronic compass. The keys / switches include PS button, Power button, Directional buttons (Up/Down/Right/Left), Action buttons (Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square), Shoulder buttons (Right/Left), Right stick, Left stick, START button, SELECT button, Volume buttons.

Sony PSP2 codenamed NGP measures approx. 182.0 x 18.6 x 83.5mm (width x height x depth) (tentative, excludes largest projection). The PSP2 should reportedly be available by the 2011 holiday season.
