NDrive developing MOBILES Android app for electric vehicles
NDrive is working on a new project to integrate Eco-renewable services with Android smartphone application. The services which are currently in the R&D stage, aim to help electric cars drivers be aware of the charging condition of their battery while locating the nearest place to recharge it in real time. Once the Android application is synced to the car, it will let drivers configure alarms for differing battery levels, compare charge station prices, and build routes based upon this input. Users will also be able to interact with an online web platform that facilitates syncing route plans and favourites from Google Maps to the application to ultimately improve efficiency and travelling comfort.

According to the company, the project is currently in the R&D phase of development. Interested users should expect these types of services to be available in the near future. This new application will be composing the project MOBILES, led by NDrive, Navigation Systems, with the auspices of INESC Porto, FEUP, INTELI and CEIIA. Full press release follows after the jump.

NDrive Explores: Eco-renewable Services - Smartphone App Integration

Porto, Portugal October 11th, 2011 – NDrive’s MOBILES project seeks eco-renewable services for Electric Car and Android smartphone users.

One major problem facing electric car users of today is autonomy. As the automotive industry continues to roll-out rechargeable vehicles, one can eventually expect national coverage of electric fuelling stations, but unfortunately as it stands today - they are often few and far between. NDrive has entered the eco-renewable wave of services with its latest project MOBILES for Android smartphones, which helps electric vehicles drivers plan and be aware of the charging condition of their battery while locating the nearest place to recharge it - all of this in real time.

NDrive’s MOBILES project seeks to provide users the chance to interact with an online web platform which facilitates syncing route plans and favourites from Google Maps to the application and ultimately improve efficiency and travelling comfort. Additionally the project explores increased mobile accessibility via Bluetooth to the details on the current charge level of electronic car batteries and the nearest charging points. Once the application is synced to the car, it will also allow users to configure alarms for differing battery levels, compare charge station prices, and build routes based upon this input.

“We believe projects such as MOBILES are important developments for the expanding mix of premium services mobile applications can provide. NDrive would love to contribute effort into ‘Green mobile solutions’ while continuing to assist travellers comfort and security”, as affirmed Luis Baptista, CEO for NDrive.

Currently these services are in the R&D phase of development; users should expect these types of services to be available in the near future. This new application will be composing the project MOBILES, led by NDrive, Navigation Systems, with the auspices of INESC Porto (Engineer Institute of Systems and Computers of Porto), FEUP (Faculty of Engineer of Porto University), INTELI and CEIIA (Centre for the Excellence and Innovation of the Automobile Industry).

We won't be seeing much of these recharge stations until the government legislates tax laws around them. There's that or until they've exhausted all profitable opportunities from oil.
