Verizon Wireless has announced that its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network field trials in the United States have demonstrated wireless data speeds that are significantly faster than today’s 3G network speeds. Trials in Boston and Seattle indicate the network is capable of peak download speeds of 40 to 50 megabits per second (Mbps) and peak upload speeds of 20 to 25 Mbps. Following previous report that Sprint 4G WiMAX phone to be available this summer, Sprint has announced the next markets in the national Sprint 4G roll out. Currently, Sprint’s 4G service is available in 27 cities around the country, including Atlanta, Honolulu, Chicago, Baltimore, Las Vegas, Portland, Philadelphia, and Seattle.
Sprint will launch service in multiple markets this year including Boston, Denver, Kansas City, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
Novatel Wireless has announced that it has successfully completed over the air testing of its new MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot prototype based on 4G-WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). Novatel’s WiMAX implementation immediately achieved throughput of 18Mbps in over-the-air testing and can support theoretical peak throughput speeds exceeding 30Mbps downlink and 10Mbps uplink in a 10 MHz channel. According to Forbes, Sprint confirmed that its first WiMAX phone will be available this summer, in the first half of the year. The phone could probably be HTC Supersonic Android phone. From previous report we know HTC Supersonic comes with Android 2.1, 4.3 inch WVGA touchscreen display, 5 megapixel camera, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, FM radio, and a kickstand on the back. Engadget is reporting that a new cellphone called HTC Supersonic will feature Sprint WiMAX. They say the device will come with a 4.3-inch screen, Android 2.1 with HTC’s Sense UI, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.
