Samsung BlackJack SGH-i607 Upgrade - Now Supports Windows Mobile 6
Samsung has released a software upgrade for the BlackJack SGH-i607, which includes an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.0 and numerous enhancements/corrections. Samsung BlackJack or Samsung SGH-i607 is a smartphone available through AT&T in the United States and Telstra in Australia. Out of the box, it runs Windows Mobile 5.0, but as of January 23, 2008, can be officially upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.0.

Details of some changes found in this HA1 update for the SGH-i607 (BlackJack).
* Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0
* Microsoft Office Mobile (allows you to view & edit XLS and DOC files on the fly)
* Modified UI with updated text & icons in several areas
* Video Share Calling Technology (allows you with supported plan and devices, to transmit live or recorded video to a recipient)
* TeleNav & MobiTV capable
* Enhancements to improve call quality
* Enhanced international roaming support (originally included in GB4 S/W)
* Integrated Daylight Savings Time Patch
* Fixed, Converter for currency now supports Canada
* Fixed, Contact lookup doesn’t work when saving embedded SMS phone number
* Fixed, Several Bluetooth issues
* Fixed, Embedded URL in MMS could not be saved
* Fixed, CV does not play in full screen mode
* Fixed, VCML count not displayed properly
* Fixed, Media player issue
* Fixed, Handset would sound tone when charger was inserted in Silent Mode

About Windows Mobile 6, The following improvements are available with Windows Mobile 6: Improved messaging and collaboration, including ability to read HTML email, calendar ribbon, keyboard shortcuts, integrated Windows Live experience and more.

Windows Mobile 6 includes new naming conventions:
+ Windows Mobile 6 Standard (formerly Smartphone) is a non-touch platform designed for handheld use
+ Windows Mobile 6 Professional (formerly Pocket PC Phone Edition) is designed for touch screen for flexible input.
+ Windows Mobile 6 Classic (formerly Pocket PC) designed for devices with no cellular radio

The upgrade was previously announced at last year’s CTIA expo, and was expected to be released last summer. However, Samsung and AT&T perpetually delayed the update. The update has taken so long to be released, that AT&T has since released the original BlackJack’s successor, the SGH-i617 BlackJack II.

The update is available free of charge, similar to other Windows Mobile 6 upgrades. In addition, the update includes Office Mobile for Windows Mobile 6 Standard for free. As with other AT&T upgrades, TeleNav and MobiTV are now preloaded onto the device with the update. Because the original BlackJack lacks A-GPS functionality, an external GPS receiver will be required to use it.

The update can be downloaded free of charge from Samsung website now. Check the Samsung BlackJack SGH-i607 software update page at www.samsung.com/us/i607/windowsupgrade

Does the SGH-i607 supports the new version of Windows mobile 6.1? My phone has already windows mobile 6.0 but I would like to upgrade it to 6.1.
If it does support, can I download the 6.1 from the following site?

Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing, so I tried it and it says the S/W version is wrong on the device. S/W meaning software I'm assuming. So, no you cannot upgrade to 6.1. At least not that I have found YET.
