GeoPedia Application - Location-based Wikipedia for iPhone
GeoPedia Application - Location-based Wikipedia for iPhone. GeoPedia is basically a location-based Wikipedia interface for your iPhone. GeoPedia takes advantage of geographic positioning functionality, like those introduced in iPhone firmware 1.1.3, and provides iPhone owners with a Wikipedia feed customized to their current location.

Users can browsed the location-customized list of Wikipedia articles that GeoPedia returns and then navigate to articles of interest to learn more. As your location changes, simply refresh GeoPedia and the feed will update. Wikipedia will follow you wherever you go.

With the iPhone's (v1.1.3 and up) Google Maps My Location feature, iPhone users can hone in on their approximate location. It's not GPS accurate, but it can usually find the exact street corner that you happen to be loitering around (of course, your mileage will vary). And, with the ability to track your general position, it was only a matter of time before an application like GeoPedia came to light.

The application only works on the iPhone, not the iPod Touch, as it requires a network signal in order to provide positioning. Add "http:// mazinger.cs.yale.edu/iphone-apps/index.xml" to your Installer.app Source list, and install "GeoPedia."

How to add 3rd-party sources to Installer.app:
1. Start-up your Installer.app
2. Hit up the “Sources” section
3. Press “Edit” in the upper right corner
4. You should see the “Refresh” button replaced with the “Add” button in the upper left corner, hit that.
5. Enter the address of the developer’s repository (for this geopedia, it’s http:// mazinger.cs.yale.edu/iphone-apps/index.xml)
6. Click “Done”.
