New Apple Patent Application : more location-based services in store for iPhone. We've heard Starbucks QuickOrder via iPhone, Now there's a new patent application from Apple that hints at more location-based services in store for the iPhone. The newest documentation hints at bringing the iPhone-Starbucks idea into other niches. By using a short-range wireless network, like the AT&T WiFi HotSpots (AT&T + Starbucks for WiFi HotSpot Service) that we're starting to see in Starbucks and Barnes & Nobles locations, Apple wants to enable iPhone users to order from customized menus according to particular food preferences or allergies.

This new patent application today expands that concept to different types of local content, including events, movies, concerts and could even present you with general information and reviews about local restaurants. This location-based content could also include ordering food as detailed in the previous patent application, but also movie tickets and music purchasing.

Interestingly, the location-based system could be used to push customized information to iPhone passing by particular business-fronts - flight schedules, maps, weather, and city information. Presumably, those with a properly equipped iPhones (or other devices) would be able to access this content simply by connecting to their local Wifi network.
