Italian Mobile Operator Wind Embeds DVD Disc in SIM Card Holder. Italian mobile operator, Wind has started offering SIM cards, with an embedded DVD compliant optical disc in the plastic holder which can be used to store PC software or media content.

The cards are supplied by Gemalto, and will be used by Wind to deliver software to allow wireless Internet access from a PC.

Once Wind subscribers have connected their mobile phone to their computer, all they have to do is put their Smart Video Card in the DVD reader of their computer and download the software from it. The software installs the necessary drivers, and user guides on the disc make life simpler for the end-user.

Smart Video Card replaces heavy and costly user and service guides - the usual tools for content promotion. It is environment-friendly, since subscribers use the card body as a DVD instead of throwing it away once they have extracted the SIM card.
