Nokia Siemens Networks doubles EDGE speeds
Nokia Siemens Networks doubles EDGE speeds. Nokia Siemens Networks has successfully field tested new EDGE technology that doubles downlink speeds compared to today's EDGE networks. The software-based solution can drive EDGE speeds up to 592 kbps on existing EDGE-capable GSM networks without major network investments.
Dual Carrier EDGE, based on the 3GPP release 7 standard, is the first step in the evolution of EDGE. Nokia Siemens Networks is already working on the next generation of EDGE, called EGPRS 2B, which will offer downlink speeds of up to 1.2Mbps and uplink speed to up to 473Kbps.
