Aptina MT9F011 14MP mobile camera image sensor delivers full HD Video for Cell Phones
CMOS imaging technology company Aptina has announced the availability of full HD video (1080p/60fps) for high-end mobile phones with the launch of its new high-resolution 14-megapixel, 1.4-micron MT9F011 mobile camera image sensor. Designed for improved video performance, this easy-to-use, cost-effective product offers both higher sensitivity for high-frame rates and reduced structured noise for clean low-light video.

The pre-processing options and features of the new MT9F011 mobile camera image sensor directly reflect the advanced capabilities OEMs and camera module integrators are looking for in high-end mobile phones. These include low power consumption, a four-lane MIPI® data interface (configurable as single, dual or quad lane), Bayer resample for improved video, 1/2.3” optical format, and 25 degree chief ray angle to minimize module height.

“Aptina continues to enable imaging everywhere,” said Farshid Sabet, Aptina General Manager, Mobile Business Unit. “In an increasingly video-centric world, the availability of the MT9F011 and its full HD video combined with unparalleled pixel performance and sensor functionality enables our customers to deliver new and differentiated video products faster. Based on recent interest and design-in activity, the MT9F011 sensor positions us to leverage our strength and capitalize on new opportunities.”

The pixels in the new MT9F011 are engineered to overcome the challenge of effective photon collection in the photodiodes that small pixels present when using conventional front side illumination (FSI). Aptina A-Pix technology provides sensitivity that is BSI-equivalent, yet with less crosstalk, lower noise and more accurate color reproduction.

Samples of the MT9F011 are currently available with mass production expected in Q2 2010.
