GyPSii and Genasys partner with Telefonica in Latin America
GyPSii has been selected by Genasys as its exclusive, mobile social network partner. In partnership with Telefonica, they will launch a consumer-focused application to subscribers across Latin America. The application, built on GyPSii’s OpenExperience™ API, is expected to launch in Mexico branded as Movistar “Powered by GyPSii” in March 2010, and will be available on Blackberry, Android, Java, Symbian S60, Windows Mobile and WAP-enabled devices.

An agreement recently signed with Telefonica Internacional S.A. designates Genasys as the exclusive provider of Location Based value added services for the 13 countries in Latin America where Telefonica operates, and is a very important step in Genasys’ strategy to grow in the Value Added Service (VAS) market worldwide. As part of this agreement, Genasys is committed to launching a wide range of very attractive and successful Value Added Services for all the clients of Telefonica in Latin America. A key element of Genasys’ strategy is to grow in the VAS market by establishing alliances with best in class providers of applications and services.

“We are delighted to have established this relationship with GyPSii, a top player in the mobile lifestyle arena,” said Alberto Nicoletti President Genasys Location Services “We are convinced that this alliance will strongly contribute to Genasys’ growth in VAS in Latin America.”

GyPSii is taking on emerging markets by working directly with carriers and their partners through GyPSii’s OpenExperience API to create GyPSii-powered consumer applications that drive data usage and introduce advertising revenue. This strategy has come full-circle in China where GyPSii acquired over one million new mobile users in the last quarter of 2009 and is delivering targeted advertising and coupons throughout the application. With potential reach to over 130M subscribers in Latin America, the arrangement with Genasys offers GyPSii the opportunity to further expand their business model in another important emerging market.

“Latin America is a rapidly expanding and very attractive wireless market. Building relationships like this with Genasys is key to our success in the region and we’re thrilled be working with such a top-notch player,” said Dan Harple, Founder and Executive Chairman of GyPSii. “Genasys’ use of our API as a social media platform to build killer apps for location-based social media, search and ad delivery, and the joint partnership with Telefonica, extends the rapidly growing GyPSii emerging market reach into Latin America.”

GyPSii will showcase its market-leading mobile digital lifestyle application and its API solutions on Stand 7B68, Hall 7 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week (Feb15-18).
