Twitter acquires Cloudhopper to handle SMS

Twitter was inspired by SMS (see Twitter's 140 character limit). To help it further grow and scale their SMS service, Twitter has announced the acquisition of Cloudhopper, a messaging infrastructure company that enables Twitter to connect directly to mobile carrier networks in countries all over the planet. The acquisition is to help Twitter manage the billions of text messages it handles.
