Google to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion
Motorola Mobility will soon be part of Google. The search giant just purchased Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. According to Google, the acquisition was meant to protect its Android mobile platform from patent lawsuits flying in from Microsoft and Apple. Motorola Mobility will give Google more than 17,000 patents in the United States to defend its mobile OS against lawsuits. The Google - Motorola acquisition is going to be run as a separate business. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open to other partners to use as they are today.
