Sonim Awarded Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) Contracts with State Governments -- New Jersey and New Mexico to Deploy Sonim FirstNet Band 14 Enabled Devices

Sonim Technologies has announced the award of two contracts through the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), which is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Through BTOP, funding is awarded to eligible entities to develop and expand broadband services to rural and underserved areas and improve access to broadband by public safety agencies.

One of the leading OEMs in public safety broadband deployments, Sonim was chosen to provide FirstNet Band 14 enabled devices, accessories and applications to public safety organizations statewide in New Jersey and New Mexico.

"Reliable communications are the lifeline to our public safety workers 24/7," said Fred Scalera, Public Safety Broadband Manager, New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. "Sonim devices were chosen for their rugged design, their commitment to quality in the form of the warranty as well as the BC14 interoperability, something only a few manufacturers offer right now."

Sonim is the first Tier One OEM offering the ability to deploy the FirstNet Band 14 frequency in its ultra-rugged mobile phones. The company said by utilizing Band 14, first responders have instant and uninterrupted access to others on the network and never have to worry about using commercial mobile networks that might be over-used during an emergency.

"We are committed to making FirstNet Band 14 a reality," said Robert Escalle, Vice President – Public Safety Market Segment, Sonim Technologies. "We view these contracts as a vital piece to improving communication systems for our public safety providers."

Sonim's XP product line is packed full of features including an extra-loud speaker, state of the art noise cancellation, a powerful, 5,000-milliamp battery, ability to be submersed in water and withstand drops onto concrete surfaces, ease of use with dirty or wet work gloves and an industry-leading 3-year comprehensive warranty.
