TeleCommunication Systems Introduces Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) for TCS Messaging and Location Technology

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc., a world leader in secure and highly reliable wireless communication technology, has announced that by year's end TCS will offer Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) for all of its technology solutions for location-based services and messaging. Integrating NFV enables TCS customers, including global wireless operators and enterprises, to virtualize entire classes of network node functions into communication services that will cost-effectively run on common off-the-shelf, non-proprietary hardware platforms.

NEWS FACTS:
  • Because the TCS portfolio will incorporate NFV, the new architecture is expected to enable customers to build specific and individualized networks that address their changing needs, and reduce time to market for new functionality and features.
  • TCS will provide its customers with the ability to pivot to this architecture of technologically advanced products and services; the solution can be deployed using a cloud-based, low-cost data center environment for both messaging and location solutions.
  • For example, a customer may choose to integrate TCS' market-leading location platform into its network, and given the flexibility of NFV, could then quickly add TCS' virtualized cloud messaging platform.
  • ABI Research reports that TCS is the global leader in precise LBS infrastructure. TCS offers time-tested, end-to-end, Location-Based Services solutions that include applications, infrastructure, mapping, and content, processing more than 7 billion LBS transactions monthly.
  • As a U.S. leader in SMS (text) Messaging, TCS has processed over 5 trillion text messages to date. TCS Cloud Messaging Center offers a hosted, two-way messaging solution that enables large-volume, secure and streamlined communications to employees, customers and partners.
TCS Commercial Software Group President Jay Whitehurst said: "By migrating all of our best-in-class solutions to NFV, we will be able to make our software available at any time and on non-proprietary platforms, reducing costs and complexity. This flexibility and agility will reduce customer costs, both CapEx and OpEx. Virtualizing our location-based and messaging platforms is a critical expansion vector for TCS as we can now serve a larger set of customers in a more cost-effective manner."
