SPB Software has announced the launch of a skinnable time toolset for iPhone/iPad devices with lots of useful features and an eye-catching user interface - SPB Time. iPhone users can now enjoy the variety of analog and digital clocks with more than 50 time skins available in the built-in online catalogue. The clock appearance, hands, digits, alarm icons, and background are highly customizable. World timer, stop watch, calendar and moon phases are also included in the toolbox.
Google Voice app released for iPad and iPod Touch
After launching Google Voice for iPhone a few weeks ago, Google is now adding support for iPod Touch and iPad. You can download a new version of Google Voice that lets you use all the features of the app on these devices, such as sending and receiving free text messages - except, of course, make cellular calls.
Google Voice Search adds personalized recognition
Google has announced that Voice Search gets personalized recognition. If you opt into personalized recognition, the latest Voice Search app begins to associate the recordings of the words that you ask it to recognize with your Google account. Voice Search then automatically uses these words to build a speech model specifically for you. This speech model enables Google to deliver greater recognition accuracy. Although subtle, accuracy improvements begin fairly quickly and will build over time.
Broadcom unveils BCM2157 dual core processor for Android phones
Broadcom has announced a new baseband platform that provides simultaneous HSDPA modem connectivity and Android-based applications processing. The new Broadcom BCM2157 dual-core baseband processor provides a full suite of advanced functionality to deliver high-end smartphone features on more affordable 3G Android cellphones. This includes mobile hot-spot, multi-touch screens, innovative media and applications processing, and other capabilities that will help handset makers drive these features to a larger tier of users.
Pantech P8000 Passes FCC
Pantech P8000 has been approved by the FCC. A rendering of the mobile phone portrays a bar-style phone with a camera placed on the back. The FCC listing shows that the Pantech P8000 supports GSM/EDGE 850/1900 and WCDMA 850/1900 on board (which is compatible with AT&T 3G frequencies). The phone will also sport Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group lists the P8000 as an Android smartphone, though no confirmation on the FCC documents.
