Nokia Home Control Center. Nokia announced it is developing a smart home platform, Nokia Home Control Center. The platform is opening a new era for networked home services and solutions. Nokia’s Home Control Center will be the basis for next generation security, smart home solutions and household energy management systems.
The platform is open allowing third parties to integrate their own smart home solutions and services; its core consumer value is the plug and play experience across all solution areas with high security levels built in. All solutions based on the platform can be used through a smart phone or PC locally or remotely. Consumers can monitor and control their electricity usage, switch devices on and off, and monitor different objects, such as temperature, camera, and motion. In future, entire systems within the home can be connected to the Nokia platform, including security, heating, and ventilation systems.
Nokia Home Control Center will be part of Nokia’s home offering. The solution will be demonstrated at the Nokia World event in Barcelona, Spain, on December 2-3, 2008 and is expected to become commercially available by the end of 2009.

Orange France launches movie channels. Orange in France is launching a new package of cinema channels. The five channels will be available from mid-November, at 12 EUR/month for TV and PC, and 6 EUR/month on Mobile. Both the films and series will be available as live broadcasts as well as on-demand. The package has apparently more than 1,200 films along with 1,000 hours of TV series, 200 documentaries and 300 hours of children’s series each year. Orange is offering free access to the cinema package to all its TV customers until the end of November, while new customers will receive the first three months free if they sign up before 14 January 2009. Mobile customers will get free access to the channels until 12 January.

NDS Technologies chosen by Sistema for Converged IPTV and Mobile TV in Russia. NDS announced that Russian media giant Sistema Mass Media (SMM) has selected the NDS Unified Headend to manage and protect TV content delivery to subscribers across both IP and mobile networks. The NDS Unified Headend integrates conditional access (CA), Digital Rights Management (DRM) and third party applications, allowing operators to deliver secure broadcast and Video-On-Demand (VOD) services to a variety of devices – set-top boxes (STBs), mobile phones, PCs, Portable Media Players (PMPs) and digital video recorders (DVRs). 
MTV + SpinVox Partnership to launch First Ever Integrated Voice Powered Social Networking Campaign. MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, SpinVox and Causes on Facebook today announced the launch of their joint campaign, ‘Stand By What You Say’. LG T80 MP3 Player with DVB-T. A MP3 player named T80 was launched by LG in the Nordics (Denmark). LG T80 is a mp3 player, but it also supports DVB-T – the digital TV technology (not the “European standard Mobile TV” DVB-H). With DVB-T, digital terrestrial services could be picked up on this device. It seems LG have a plan that will make people in Denmark happy.
